How much you like this movie entirely depends on what you want from it. If you want word-for-word canonical Beowulf, then you'll cry yourself to sleep after you've seen it. On the other hand, it's a pretty interesting interpretation of the tale. If you just frame it as a "based on" the saga rather than being the film version of it, then your sanity is safe.

Hrothgar's fortress appears to have nidstang all over the place though, which merits a whole star in my book.
