Review of Beowulf (2007) by Ryan Gibbons — 19 Sep 2010
This film is sort of like a bad joke. The CGI is ridiculously over the top, the characters look like animated card board cut-outs. It presents itself as a really old video game would, the actors will be moving, and then suddenly their bodies will strangely twitch like a computer malfunction or something.
I love fantasy and medieval movies, but this one certainly does not stand out. The action scenes are so poorly filmed that it makes the film less engaging and interesting. The only plus side of this movie was Angelina Jolie, not only was the "mostly nude" scene awesome, but her acting is far better than any of the others.
I like Ray Winestone and this movie is not at the fault of him, I think Zemeckis got ahead of himself. It almost felt like a Michael Bay movie. And yes I did just say that. Beowulf could have been pretty good if they had not of focused so much on making the movie terrible.
Angelina Jolie's screen time was ...just fine.
