Review of Benny & Joon (1993) by Daniel T — 24 Jun 2014
This is a total hipster movie--and this was w-a-a-a-y before those quirky Wes Anderson films. Johnny Depp plays and offbeat Buster Keaton wannabe while Mary Stuart Masterson plays a mentally challenged pyromaniac but still a good person.
I originally thought this film would be a romance comedy between the two, but it's really about a relationship between brother and sister. Aidan Quinn, who is really the star of film, does an excellent job as Masterson's protective and socially awkward brother.
This is a must see film because it's different. It's a comedy, but it has a little bit more of an edge to it that's just unconventional.
