Review of Benny & Joon (1993) by Ruba E — 08 Oct 2009
A bittersweet story about a brother (Benny) and his mentally ill sister (Joon) - who he takes care of and tries to protect her from any harm - . in a poker game Benny loses and is obliged to take care of a player's cousin (Sam) who's very strange and acts like he's Buster Keaton (i haven't heard of him before but I read he was an comedian) , anyway after that Sam and Joon slowly fall in love.
It's a very heartwarming movie with lovely performances from Aidan Quinn as the overprotective brother , Mary Stuart and of course Johnny Depp who made this film extra special by playing the innocent and charming Sam.
P.S. it's not a movie for everyone's taste , that's why I don't recommend it to anyone who doesn't appreciate a simple film like this but it fits my taste very well...
" - Joon : Did you have to go to school for that?
- Sam : No, no, I got thrown out of school for that. ".
