Review of Benny & Joon (1993) by Shauna C — 08 Mar 2009
A very sweet film with likeable performances from the three leads. Mary Stuart Masterson plays Joon, a mentally ill young woman who is cared for by her brother, Benny (Aidan Quinn). Benny's life is affected by his love for his sister and he finds it hard to find a suitable person who can care properly for her - enter Sam (Johnny Depp), a film fanatic who is obsessed by Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, who changes their lives.
Depp looks in his element here and again produces another memroble madcap character. It's a very enjoyable film and doesn't overstay it's welcome.
