Review of Benny & Joon (1993) by Luxo J — 16 Apr 2010
I had know idea what this was about before I saw it, all I knew was that Johnny Depp was in it. It might have been better if I knew a bit about the main characters because it took me a while to get used to them, I wasn't sure whether Joon (Mary Stuart Masterson, never heard of her) had a mental condition or not. For those who haven't seen the movie, yes, the main character has a mental illness.
The main reason I liked this was because it felt like something different, and I like different. At the start it didn't seem like much, but once we officially meet Johnny Depp's character, Sam, the movie really picks up. There's just something about Johnny Depp's screen presence that makes all of his movies enjoyable. I hope I didn't sound gay there, I just enjoy Johnny Depp's acting.
