Review of Benji (1974) by Dave C — 29 Jan 2008
This is a child hood classic. How can you not love this movie about the furry dog who can do pretty much anything. You have to feel sorry for him as he always seems to be getting lost, abandoned, or set against perilous and life threatening situations.
But it's all done in earnest and brings with it a sense of adventure. And the movie really celebrates the fact that a dog is able to display such human emotions. After all, it's an entire film pretty much about him, and it's extremely watchable.
He steals your heart and then takes your emotions for a ride as we gasp in horror at one point and celebrate for joy at another. All because we want this furry little ball of fluff to come out on the other end and find his way back home.
