Review of Benji (1974) by Bill T — 07 Oct 2010
For some odd reason, I thought the plot for this movie was For The Love Of Benji... Anyways, it isn't. Another thing, I had immense childhood memories of scenes from this, especially when the fluffy white haired dog gets kicked.
God, was I traumatized by that when I was a kid. Anyways, man, time sure hasn't been kind to this, as this is as schmaltzy as it's going to get. Benji is a stray dog looking for a home. While he's not too successful with that, he has a lot of friends he visits regularily.
One day, he gets human visitors in the ababndoned house he stays in. They're up to no good! Theyre gonna kidnap 2 kids he visits! What's a dig to do??? Somewhat ok plot here.. Joe Camp doesn't really know what else to do with this plot as a LOT of the film is filler, what with Benji continuing to visit his human friends that have no relevance to the plot at all, and many.
. many.. shots of Benji wandering around. And that theme.. that damn theme song. Arrrrgh lol.
