Review of Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970) by Antony A — 14 Apr 2008
This is almost a re-tread of the first in the series, if not for the revelation of the psychic mutants, who are among the coolest baddies in cinema history! Their presence also explains why there is thunder and lightning, but no rain! A tragic, shocking ending.
Taylor really didn't need to... To put this film into perspective, one needs to watch all five, and understand that the future isn't written in stone. That, the end of the world in this film, is just one possible ending.
The arrival of three astronauts to 1973 Earth in the next film saw to that!
