Review of Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970) by Matthew D — 05 Jul 2014
Definitely a big step down from the original. Planet of the Apes ended in such a way that it didn't need any sequels. But if it had to have a sequel, surely it could have been better. Charlton Heston is in it but he has only a small part and that's a big part of the problem.
Also there's very little that isn't just a rehash of the first movie until "Brent" discovers the people worshiping an atomic bomb underneath the surface of the planet. At this point the movie goes from being uncreative to just plain stupid.
And it has a really dumb ending too. But dumb as this movie is, the other three Planet of the Apes sequels that follow are much, much worse. (But I'm going to watch them again anyways.).
