Review of Bending the Arc (2017) by Janessa N — 08 Nov 2017
While Partners in Health has done amazing work for the medical communities in rural areas and significant work overall for Global Health, this documentary takes on a heavy handed and slanted view of events surrounding Paul Farmers and PiH's work.
Casting broad strokes of hero vs villain in a manner that doesn't illustrate the complexity of situations. The movie takes an aggressive stance against people in the scientific community who are posing questions, which are very legitimate, about their work and results.
This process means that results are not taken at face value, but need to be verified and repeated. This process is critical and important, but is instead these scientists are cast as villains. While I appreciate and admire Paul Farmer's and Partners in Health's work, this felt pandering and biased and tunnel-visioned.
