Review of Bend It Like Beckham (2002) by Neek G — 28 Apr 2012
Bend it Like Beckham.
Is about, an Indian girl and her family, who was raised on traditions of Hinduism. They marry inside their religion or race and are to conduct themselves in certain manners. They lived in America. She had an older sister who she was close with however; her sister did date inside their religion and was to be wed soon. They're customs included having their spouses chosen for them. The man is to work the woman is to stay home and take care of the house. She is to bear children cook and clean and make the man happy. Her father was lenient on her and her mother stricter however, both parents believed in the same. She was in love with soccer, it was one of her greatest passions, and she dreamt of becoming a soccer star and idolized a famous soccer player. She grew to have a relationship with her American soccer coach and she knew this was something she could get in trouble for. She also snuck around to play soccer and go to soccer practice. She got away with it until her father began to follow her and knew of her actions. Her parents soon learned of her lies and her mother was furious and banned her of playing soccer or seeing that man and she followed her dreams anyway with the help of her sister or father I believe. She wanted to play in the finals so bad and she made it and felt that she was doing the right thing because it is what and who she wanted to be.
In the world religion today, it is important that you follow your family traditions. People are banned from their families for not obeying the rules. If your spouse is to be picked you must follow that tradition. This is something sacred in the religion of Hindu. They followed traditions, with prayer and the food they ate and the gathering they attended, their weddings have certain traditions that had to be followed such as the kind of garments worn, their dances, the giving of money.
