Review of Bend It Like Beckham (2002) by Faaiz I — 02 Oct 2012
Although, it is a little too cliched and predictable at times, the story is still inspiring, the characters easy to relate to, and there's an effective touch of humor every once in a while which makes the movie fun to watch and enjoy with the family.
I'm from South Asia so I understand all of the references and I felt that the stereotype was well explored and researched from the stubborn, unyielding mothers to the intricate family structures and values and not to mention, the lively and colorful celebrations and wedding ceremonies.
It felt right and fell into place even though I felt that the "Paki" and the "gay" stroylines were not much focused on. But regardless of that, a good movie if you're looking for something fun and inspirational to watch.
