Review of Bend It Like Beckham (2002) by Vicki R — 28 Mar 2013
A delightful film that follows a familiar (though quite relatable) plot, but provides a number of laughs and an assortment of some very well performed moments along the way. Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightley, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Juliet Stevenson are in top form here.
Despite some thick accents and the overuse of music at times, 'Bend It Like Beckham' succeeds in its presentation of Indian culture; the colours and sounds are a treat to the senses.
In all, this is an engaging feelgood tale about coming out on top.
