Review of Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (1925) by Suga T — 30 Mar 2009
One of the epic silent films of its day which inspired the late 50's version and many sandal epics to come, focuses on Jonah Ben Hur and his tribulations which start once he meets his former best friend who is now a Roman centurian, and through a misunderstanding is betrayed by him into slavery, leaving his life and family seemingly destroyed.
Equal parts revenge story, inspiring underdog story and touching on Christian mythology, ben Hur acts as a tale for the ages. Some of the situations are slightly dated since the film is aroudn 80 years old, but still a must see, with live musical accompaniment where possible.
