Review of Ben-Hur (1959) by Michael H — 16 Mar 2012
Ben Hur is the defianition of an epic film. In the time of Christ, Judah Ben Hur is framed for trying to kill the roman govener. Now, we are embark on a epic oddyesy from the birth of christ to the crucifixion. Everything looks great, from the gallions to the chariot race. If I had to choose between the Gallion attack and Chariot Race... well, I had to go with the Gallion Attack the most. Yes, The Chariot Race is fine but it does not keep in time with laps. The Gallion attack is perfect because of its amazing pacing and time. The costumes are amazing, and so are the cast of colorful characters. It looks perfect, but holds one fatal flaw. At the climax of the film when Jesus Is Being Crucified, the man who plays Jesus does not look like Jesus Christ at all. They got the hair right and not the face. Plus, at the final shot of the film, hes not there on the cross. I know they put him in a cave. But did the romans put him in the cave because it was a new day? Its never explained to the audience in any way. But don't be alarmed by Ben Hur, A Epic of all Epics.
99/100 A.
