Review of Ben-Hur (1959) by Jon D — 24 Jun 2010
An epically scaled, breathtaking period drama, with sterling performances from Charlton Heston (as Judah Ben Hur, a man with his heart set on revenge), Jack Hawkins (who is suitably pompous as a Roman consul) and Haya Harareet (as the woman Ben Hur falls for).
With a cast of thousands, an epic timescale (the movie is set over a period of 4 years) and excellent direction from William Wyler, this movie is almost perfect, but is let down by being far too long for repeated viewing.
