Review of Below (2002) by Michael S — 06 Aug 2007
I love submarine films, David Twohy's previous works, and Bruce Greenwood can convince you of anything in any performance. However, Below is simply a mess. The basic story surrounding a US submarine that is being haunted by a terrible incident in its past is very interesting and could have worked.
However, the film ultimately falls apart by not focusing in on its strengths and straying too far from believability. Great production design, some solid effects works and an effective atmosphere are lost by plot adjustments that stray from the course and weaken the overall power of the film.
A missed opportunity.
