Review of Below (2002) by Mel V — 31 Mar 2005
Ok, here are some more... Below was an effective horror movie. It got me to jump out of my seat at some points and was a great ghost flick. I liked the fact that it was in a submarine, under water, in WWII when they get attacked not only by ghosts and harsh memories, but also by other ships, mines, and other obstacles. The acting was excellent and so was the storyline. I liked the fact that it used violence, but it didn't over-do it like some other horror films. I mean, it still didn't suceed in fully scaring me, but it got me pretty creeped out and it could of been better in general , but I thought it was a good little film to add to my DVD collection.
Nurse Betty was pleasing. I mean, it was funny, it had its violence, the acting wasn't half bad, and even though I thought of it as sort of a "Truman Show" rip-off, it was still a great movie. I thought Chris Rock and Morgan Freeman made an excellent couple. (Not in a homosexual way, but you'll find out. If you've seen it, you know what I mean) This is just a fun, happy movie with stuff for the girls and stuff for the guys.
Beautiful Girls... hmm... It's my friend's dads favorite movie, but I don't see why. I thought it was a good plot and fair acting, but they were mainly acting just as a usual, cheesy guy and/or normal girls, nothing special. I didn't laugh much, which I was surprised about since I laugh at some of the most stupid or smartest things. I think it would of had a stronger effect if I was older and maybe had a girlfriend or a wife, but I am not some 20 or 30-something old man woman. I'm a teenager/young adult without a girlfriend and I have never had one so... I can't really relate to it.
Anacondas: Hunt for the Blood Orchid sounded interesting and had potential from what I read on the back. I thought much higher, I did think it wouldn't be ground breaking or a 9/10 or anything, but I thought it could be a 4 or 5/10 and might be a fun movie to see with my friend. It wasn't. The movie I thought was dull and almost boring. The special effects for the snake were mediocre, but it was obvious that it was a computer generated creature, not an actual snake. I don't recommend you see this. If you must, see the first one Anaconda. It's still not great, but I am guessing it is better. (That's right, I haven't seen the first one) Just don't see it.
Down to Earth was hilarious. I thought it was funny and I loved Chris Rock's character just as much as I loved Eugene Levy in it. It seemed familiar to some other movies, but it still was good fun. Plot? Guy accidentally gets in accident with truck, made a mistake, gets put back down to earth into a white, fat, old billionare and changes around him from a mean man, to a nice, caring man. His wife and associate originally tried to kill him, but Chris Rock came into the body first and they try again. That is all I can tell you because I don't want to completely spoil it for anyone reading this.
Out of all 5 of these movies, I recommend them all except Anacondas and Beautiful Girls unless you are an older adult in their mid-20s or 30s.
