Review of Belly (1996) by Tattooed White Trash . — 10 Feb 2008
A very strange narrative, though embodying the norms of a "gansta" film, it had an abstract flow of a sort of nihilistic thinking, even though the protagonist had an optimal goal in mind: to escape the lawless, yet terribly lawful chaos of the ghetto and live a simple, non-materialistic life in Africa.
I have seen many films that conspicuously casted the Method Man, yet none of them used his charismatic and apathetic wit to his character. This film was a salvation of that though, for his cold, yet gentle dialog provided the substance a perfect antagonist.
Though difficult to follow at times, it was a masterpiece of scary irony.
