Review of Bellflower (2011) by Chris M — 29 Jul 2011
While there is a fair amount to admire in Bellflower, it ultimately falls far short of the nightmare it could (and very much wants) to be. For all the technical innovation the first-time filmmaker Evan Glodell went through, there's not enough polish on the film for him to even be bothered to get a clean shot through a lens that's not gritted with dirt.
With images as literally filthy as some of the ones in this movie, it's difficult to watch, no matter how engaged I wanted to be from time to time. Technical innovation should never be accompanied/hampered by technical incompetence, but here it is nonetheless.
