Review of Bellflower (2011) by Phillip T — 18 Aug 2011
The promise of MadMax thrills, but delivering love story chills.
My only gripe, as a fan of Mad Max and all that is automotive, is that the movie bills itself around the Medusa car; their Mad Max inspired project car. But, the movie itself doesn't hardly use it. Hell, it seems to mean almost nothing to the main character. But, there is a clever liquor dispensing Volvo Bertone, which gets more screen time and plays a larger role.
The story itself though is solid though, and it is very well shot; often using the camera to enhance the feelings of the characters, from drunkeness to raw anger. But, anyone who's had a rough, and I mean rough break up can fall right into the story. This isn't a soft teenage love/break up story, it's dark, and holds nothing back.
Outside of the complete failure of really delivering its promise of a MadMax inspired package, it's a solid film with a style all its own.
