Review of Bellflower (2011) by Steven B — 08 Sep 2011
It is really hard to know what to say about his other than 'WTF?' The movie moves like a bad dream in fits and starts. From what I've read the folks who made this built a lot of their own equipment and such. The images are still with me today.
The basic premise is a 'buddy' movie fueled with alcohol, lots of alcohol, drugs, flames, and fast cars, and alcohol. I could hardly believe the amount of drinking these young people did.
It sort of follows the sexual relationship between two of the young people and the friendship of two of them. One ends very, very badly (or does it? that might be a dream sequence?) and the other drifts off into fantasy based on Mel Gibson 'The Road Warrior' movie.
Several of The Old Geezers Who Go To The Matinee Alone got up and left after a few minutes; I'm not sure if it was the violence or the very odd visual work.
Anyway, I'm not recommending this or say don't bother; it's too different a movie for that. A day later I'm still thinking about it, so it did have some impact on me for sure.
