Review of Bellflower (2011) by Samson D — 02 Jan 2012
Slightly amateurish and scrappy and Glodell and his hipster friends aren't the best of actors, but Bellflower is so gleefully stylish that I couldn't help but love it and look past (most) of it's weak points, of which there are a few.
I also really admire Glodell for having the audacity to write, direct and star in a hyper-stylized fantasy version of his own life. Bellflower is also augmented by Glodell's homemade camera consisting of a bunch of different parts from different international cameras put together (which adds a unique visual aspect to the film) and his DUI explosives, weapons (FUCKING FLAMETHROWERS!!) and cars, which are all technical marvel considering he made this film for 17,000 dollars.
definitely a director to watch - he might never make anything worth watching ever again, or he might transcend some childish aspects of his work and develop into a more "professional" filmmaker, where his creativity and visual flair can be slightly more focused and put to better use, in which case he'll be a genius.
But it's still too early to tell.
