Review of Belle de Jour (1967) by David V — 18 Jan 2009
A masterpiece of the French New Wave Cinema, this movie was incredible. What angered me the most, though, was that the DVD cover didn't even come close to giving the movie justice, instead making it sound like some trashy piece of softcore porn.
Rather than being a "kinky erotic thriller" (it uses the word "erotic" about five times, which completely angered me), it's an intensely emotional drama about the corruption of innocence in the life of an emotionally fragile woman.
What's more, I could easily compare this movie to my own relationship with God, which made the film even more powerful. This one was truly a classic worth remembering for a long time.
