Review of Belle (2013) by James B — 21 Feb 2015
I liked it. I just felt like it was a little too structured and too predictable. I also felt that the main actress, Gugu Mbatha-Raw was overacting at times. She really took her role and did a lot of "this is all about me" sort of acting.
I would have liked her a little more subtle. But maybe that's just the directing or whatever. It's an enjoyable movie, and I do like period pieces, but it just didn't have the raw genuineness I like in my movies.
Would have liked if it didn't follow the Hollywood formula as closely. So if you're looking for a serious film about how slavery laws were initiated in the UK, don't watch this. There's fluff.
