Beautifully shot, great costumes and a story line to keep your attention, this accomplished period piece somehow does not fulfill expectations. With all the ingredients for a social powder keg, it remains flat, subdued, understated and a little boring.
Half a star for bringing this story to our attention. Bottom line: The fuse never really gets lit.
