Review of B'ella (2014) by Julie F — 02 Feb 2009
Pissed me off!!! She states VERY CLEARLY that she does not want a child, is not ready for a child, does not have a job, does not really even like children, and then a MAN comes along. She states VERY CLEARLY that the process of having children does not affect men, that they can come and go and go on with their lives (especially during the pregnancy), and that adoption is not an option for her as she does not want to go the 9 months and then give the child away, and then a MAN (that very closely resembles my visualization of Christ, by the way) whispers in her ear and all is solved.
I am OVER the infantilization of women the perpetuation of the belief that women don't really know what they want when it comes to unwanted pregnancies. But let's start from the beginning. A.) He (Eduardo Verastegui) is beautiful, both before and after the Christ beard.
B.) Yes he has a lovely family and yes adoption was a blessing for them (although Manny is an unpleasant person), but SOOOOO presumptuous. C.) That adopting a child is his redemption for the mistake that ruined his life? He can't drive a car, but he can adopt a child? D.
) The breakfast "make up" scene with the brothers was a little too close to Big Night. I love it when a movie makes me angry, whether that was their intent or not. A good think piece if you don't get caught up in the schmaltz.
