Review of Being There (1979) by Tiziano H — 29 Jun 2011
This movie would make an excellent addition to a philosophy and film class. I would pair this movie with Martin Heidegger's Being and Time. A seminal continental philosophy book in which his concept of Dasein (Being There) was formulated.
Dasein is essentially the human being thrown into the world and forced into the temporal lived experience. Chance the Gardner is Dasein par excellence. I may be the only one assuming this philosophical undertone, but the movie provides plenty of reason to doubt that.
Watch this wonderful movie and then read Being and Time. Both shall enrich your life.
