Review of Being John Malkovich (1999) by Steve A — 25 Jul 2011
I found Being John Malkovich to be an incredibly interesting and entertaining experience. What makes it so good is that it starts out like a simple story and grabs you into this strange epic crisis movie. Of course, this could have easily been a comedy with someone taking over John Malkovitch's mind and have him do funny things, but no, this movie decides to get dramatic. Near the end, in your mind you're saying 'Wow this is weird'. But you know exactly what is happening. Why I it so interesting? Besides the simple and entertaining beginning leading to the craziness, what also makes the film so interesting is that it's about something we all have imagined and thought about: being in someone else's mind. Maybe a celebrity. You've talked about it with someone or at least thought about it. Admit it, you like that shit.
Unlike Inception, this movie has great characters. They're interesting. Every character in this is so unique. Unsure of each other, redemption, betrayal. Great shit!
