Review of Being Flynn (2012) by Ryan B — 27 Apr 2012
Better films have been made from lesser material. Look out for "What to Expect When You're Expecting" this summer. Chris Weitz took the hardened "Another Bullshit Night in Suck City" and turned it into the story of a father and son after years apart finally connecting and becoming more rounded individuals.
Some of those people will never escape their desolate existence, but these two did. One went on to mild success as a writer. The other found Section 8 housing. But De Niro gives a good performance as a manic depressive given to fits of rage descending further into madness.
I wish the rest of the cast had been given such a showcase for their talents, especially Victor Rasuk and Lili Taylor.
