Review of Being Flynn (2012) by Kevin B — 22 Aug 2012
The book on which this movie is based is phenomenal. But even when I heard that a movie was being made of it, I wondered how well it would translate to film. Some books just don't do so well, especially on the subject of homelessness. Ironweeds was a Pulitzer prize winning book, and though it stared Jack Nicholson, the movie sucked.
Myself, I lived for 14 years homeless on the streets of Nashville. I can tell you from my own experience that the book "Being Flynn" (previously known as, "Another Bullshit Night In Suck City," tells the story of homelessness more honestly than any other book on the subject. Although critics divided on the movie, it looks like the audience still appreciates it. I'll be seeing this movie, regardless of what anyone says a about it.
