Review of Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey (2011) by Paul O — 17 Aug 2012
As heartwarming as they come. Meet the man behind the legend, Kevin Clash, the voice and puppeteer behind the universally loved Elmo. There really is a magic about this; I felt how touching it was about 40 seconds into it, and I don't even have that strong of ties to Sesame Street.
I rarely go for documentaries, because I usually end up having a lot of difficulty getting into a narrow, very particular subject matter that I probably wasn't interested in to begin with. You can't help connecting with this movie as an automatic reflex, because this is all about a man whose job it is to make everybody smile and feel loved.
Kevin Clash has an interesting story and is just as lovable as the puppet he is better known for playing, as he is hard working, humble, and as good-natured as can be. I particularly appreciate that his story gets to be told here, because you would never recognize his name or face otherwise.
This grabbed me from the opening minute and transported me back to an adolescent state, and I suspect it will on most. If you can look me in the eye and tell me that this didn't have an affect on you, then you are far too jaded than I care to be associated with.
