Review of Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey (2011) by Zak S — 15 May 2012
I'm always hard pressed to give a film 5 stars. But with Being Elmo, it earns those stars in spades. This is a documentary about how Elmo came to be and the man who chased his dream to become a puppeteer. Little did he know that he would become the man behind one of Sesame Street's most beloved puppets.
This is the story of Kevin Clash, who knew what he wanted to be when he grew up. He just needed to find the opportunity or make his own opportunity to get there. Its the story of a dream and achieving that dream. Being Elmo is uplifting and heartfelt. I highly recommend you see this.
**My only disappointment, and I have myself entirely to blame - is by the time it was over, I felt I had ruined the magic that puppets can bring to the screen -- as if I was there to pull the curtain back and see what really happens. It's interesting.
