Review of Behind the Sun (2001) by Maria U — 24 Oct 2010
Set in rural Brazil at the beginning of the 20th century, this is a story of an long bloody feud between two families for a piece of land. The cinematography is beautiful, with every shot carefully chosen and edited, setting the perfect ambience for a very poetical simple story.
Violence is always cyclical and never ending destroying everyone and everything around it. Even the land has dried off as these families refuse to change their ways. Another excellent piece of Brazilian cinema from the Director of 'Central Station' and 'The Motorcycle Diaries.
