Review of Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) by Dave B — 21 May 2009
Wow. I had been waiting for the region 4 release for ages and now finally I have it. The best thing to happen to slasher films since Wes Craven's Scream. Although Scream wasn't at all original nor superb, but it did create a small slasher hysteria in the 90's which the mainstream eventually grew bored with due to the dull remakes that followed and continues to this day.
There was a brief revival of slasher flicks too. Who cares. We now have Behind The Mask. It does smell of that I KNOW IT ALL/PARODIES formular Wes Craven squeezed into Scream and that is why I love his film and why I like Scream.
This is in my opinion one of the best things to have happend to the modern SLASHER genre since Wes Cravens slasher fest of the 90's..
