Review of Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) by Adam P — 09 Apr 2008

A really nice surprise, especially considering it was basically direct to DVD and yet it's better than most theatrical horror films of late by quite a large margin. The concept is pretty ingenious and as a slasher fan, it's consistently clever and particularly funny.

Go into it expecting a comedy, because it certainly doesn't aim to scare, and that's why it works so well. The cameos and in-jokes are excellent, and even with a low budget and perhaps some moderately lackluster photography, it's genuinely well done.

Advice to Leslie Vernon though, he needs to work on his look.
