Review of Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) by Christopher S — 04 Nov 2008
Mockumentary meta-horror film has an interesting concept, but is not nearly clever enough to make it work and fails as both a horror film and horror parody. Some potentially funny twists on the slasher genre are executed in the most obvious and overplayed ways possible, the cast is completely obnoxious (Nathan Baesel as the killer is particularly unbearable), and by the end it degenerates into a fairly conventional slasher movie.
For a far superior - on every level - take on the same basic concept, check out the brilliant French film 'Man Bites Dog'.
