Review of Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) by Andrew R — 18 Nov 2008
If the intentions of this movie was to be totally pretentious and annoying, then it succeeded. I didn't like this mockumentary style when it was done years ago as Man Bites Dog and it's even annoying now.
I mean, one of the greatest thing about the slasher genre is that the killers didn't talk much. Leslie Vernon (Mancuso) is a jabbermouth who just goes on and on to the point that I was glad the killings started.
This might have worked as a short film or a student film, but not here. And why does only the fat member of the film crew get killed? At least the fat guy was the hero in Broken Lizard's Club Dread.
