Review of Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) by Virginia L — 07 Jun 2011
Leslie Vernon......just take a minute and let that name sink into your brain. Leeeeeslie Verrrrrrnon. THATS the name you should be uttering instead of Jason or Michael or Freddy (easy boys, I'm just sayin.
...) This incredible nugget of gold in the horror world is priceless. My friend Kyle show this to me and I laughed my ass off the entire time. If you are a horror fan, then you will see every convention that this movie lovingly respects and then violently skewers.
And will someone please explain to me why we aren't seeing Nathan Baesel in every movie that ever comes out? This guy bats it out of the park as Leslie, a man who is funny as hell, immediately charming and a pyscho killer.
It still amazes me that this one slipped under the radar, but maybe thats ultimatly why people are falling in love with it. People discover it. And show it to their friends. Who tell their friends about it.
And that's what gives a film longevity. That's also what makes it a classic.
