Review of Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) by Lindsay B — 12 Jun 2008
Behind The Mask is another in a long list of movies that don't quite live up to what they could have been. The first half of the movie was fun and entertaining. Truly a great idea that was being exploited to it's fullest.
Even if there may be a few too many slasher films you have to have seen previously to get all the jokes. All of the acting was very tight and perfectly matched the tone. In fact, I would have been perfectly happy if the movie cut out at the half-way point.
Unfortunately, the film transitions from it's fun mockumentary style, to a more generic horror movie tone. The ending was waaay to predictable and seemed to take itself just a tad too seriously for me to find any comedy in it.
If you love slasher films I cannot recommend this highly enough, but if you don't you may want to leave this one by the wayside.
