Review of Behind the Candelabra (2013) by Ernesto S — 26 May 2013
It's extremely sad that no distributor in the USA had the guts to distribute the first important movie of 2013. It's not only the act of denying much deserved awards to Michael Douglas and Matt Damon what is wrong, but by making it a TV movie in America, the audience is being alienated and the message everyone is getting is that Behind The Candelabra is just an OK movie for cable.
Wrong. This is the most coherent of Steven Soderbergh's efforts, probably his only memorable film along 'Traffic'. I've never seen a better Michael Douglas nor a Matt Damon for that matter.
It's high craft and art, completely the contrary to the kitsch life, limited talent and excessive bad taste Liberace had.
