Review of Behind the Candelabra (2013) by Dan R — 02 Jun 2013
Perhaps the best American gay themed film since Milk. It's amazing to think that perhaps even 5 years ago, this movie couldn't exist. But not for the reasons you might think. It's the kinds of warts and all story that would have gotten criticized by GLaAD for perpetuating negative images of a gay relationship.
But it's progress that this time in history almost no one cares. Matt Damon gives his best performance since The Talented Mr Ripley, but Michael Douglas's gives the great performance. It shows a lack of vanity that I didn't think he had in him.
