Review of Behind the Candelabra (2013) by Martin P — 08 Jun 2013
Perceived as 'too gay' by Hollywood so shown as an HBO made for TV movie in the US this gets a cinematic release in the UK. Douglas gets his best role in years as he camps it up big and proper but awards should also go to the amount of tape tightening Rob Lowe's face in his scenes and for virtually unrecognisable Bakula and Ackroyd in secondary roles.
Debbie Reynolds plays Liberace's mother. Great to see her back on screen. Actually a quite moving love story and a close examination of a dysfunctional relationship, including its demise. Recommended though given the subject matter it will be on limited release.
