Review of Behind the Candelabra (2013) by Renato T — 19 Oct 2013
After all the hype this movie got, I was underwhelmed. It also is a disadvantage if you remember Liberace and how dazzling he could be in the 70ies. What I ended up seeing were two macho actors camping it up to the point of it becoming silly.
Maybe the time passed since then does make the whole situation look odd, shallow and outlandish. The determining forces behind the characters (fleetingly mentioned) never really become the driving factors in their relationship.
A missed opportunity to dig just a little deeper to reveal the true tragedy behind the candelabra. Bottom line: Superficial.
