Review of Behind the Candelabra (2013) by Anisha M — 07 Aug 2014
Growing up far away from western culture,in a country where the topic is still hard to digest, feels like this film never creates any kind resistance on audience like us for a single moment while watching the film.
It felt like eating an alien food for first time and still enjoying its every slide in tongue and swallow down the throat. Its a magical love relationship between Liberace and Scott. Its directed so well with so much of truth about on- and off-stage Liberace, that the audience is left with nothing in between them and real life Liberace.
Its so damn honest about those complicated human emotions that everyone goes through their own life but never admitting them. Matt and Douglas are wonderful. Just wonderful!!. Douglas plays Liberace with such an ease that it seems like he enjoyed every single moment in front of the camera while shooting and that's what a true performer does.
And you cant ignore the smile Douglas carries throughout the film. I hope people of those days went back to the era of Liberace after watching such a beautiful and admirable film. Its really an honest vow to that star.
