Review of Beginners (2011) by Steve M — 04 Jan 2012
"Beginners" is director Mike Millls best film so far as this film jumps three timelines in order to tell its story by weaving several sub-plots together whether it is the son's difficulty in maintaining a relationship or the father's attempts to find purpose in the twilight of his life.
As a filmmaker, Mills uses a sophisticated and creative use of lighting, cross-cutting, and color manipulation that suggests mood. It is one of the best and creative romantic movies to come out this year that show us that sometimes, we all start as beginners sooner or later.
