Review of Beginners (2011) by Septa P — 05 Feb 2012
I love inventive storytelling. I love original approach when it actually helps the storytelling. I love these beautifully observed characters and I did care about their lives. Christopher Plummer is delightful in a very complex, beautifully executed performance.
But the standout is Ewan McGregor, who continue to be one of my real favorites and one of the most underrated actors working today. He could make a man, who considers himself completely average and ordinary, a pleasure to watch.
Here's a character who's complex and interesting and f*** up, but still longing - for love and communication and a family. A wonderful script that takes on a familiar subject and turns it into a lyrical and intimate confession.
