Review of Beginners (2011) by Robin B — 14 Feb 2012
Wonderfully twee, tenderly shot. On the one hand quietly funny and beautifully light whilst on the other truly heartbreaking. The emphasise lies in how our parents mould us as human beings but how we need to mould ourselves in order to make our own lives.
Beginners is an apt title as at the grand age of 38 the main character is still following baby steps in the relationship stakes. What Beginners also does exceptionally well is to poetically move you whilst telling you that you will find your way. There might be heartache along the way but, like this film itself, it's worth the journey.
