Review of Beginners (2011) by William H — 25 Feb 2012
I'm simple-minded and can't help but compare this to last year's A Single Man, which developed its characters a lot more and brought me into the protagonist's life in a way that The Beginners never did.
I always felt somewhat distant from Christopher Plummer's character and Ewan MacGregor's was mostly inscrutable: an ill-defined, unsure, dysfunctional but well-meaning thirtysomething of some sort.
His relationship with Shoshanna from Inglourious Basterds just seemed half-assed, I didn't buy into it, or care much about it.
